You may have noticed in the Carb removal post that I needed to remove One of the intakes. This was because I could not remove the screw band from the carb side. It’s a good thing that I removed it anyway as I found there was a crack in the intake… Well, more accurately the one ear of the intake was only being held on by the rubber coating. Here is how that went.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While I lost the pics I had for this part I did run into a potentially Bad issue. when I was going over the carbs I noticed a line in the intake manifold that was removed with the carbs. turns out the line was a crack in the intake that completely separated and was only being held together by the rubber coating on the intake. It cam apart completely when attempting to remount the intake manifold. Someone had previously put gasket maker on the engine side of the manifold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While most of the parts for this bike are readily available and cheap, the same is not true for these intake manifolds because unlike most other bikes using these carbs these manifolds are offset. They don’t produce them anymore and there are only a few available at a price of $450. for used ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am currently attempting to repair the manifold using J-B weld. it looks promising but I’m waiting to see it its going to be a strong enough repair. As tightening the bolts puts a lot of pressure on this cracked area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the newer engine manifolds are coated with rubber so i decided to coat this also<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

fter some drying time I installed the carbs and put in the original spark plugs, temp. connected the gas tank and battery. now to see if she’s gonna run. If so we move on with the rehab. if not, back to the drawing board<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
